Spent 10 hours driving through north central PA and upstate NY today. I saw an incredible sunrise over the Susquehanna River, the misty mountains and valleys north of Williamsport and the ridges of wind turbines in the rolling hills of New York. But, here are two puzzlers.

First, crushed wheat in a field along Denton Corners Rd in Castile, NY.

I don’t know what causes the stalks to be depressed randomly like this. I assume rain and wind does it. There was no pattern.

Then, on the way home, I pass the purple and aqua sea serpent along Rt. 11 & 15 in Perry County.

I also don’t know the story behind this – he’s been here for over 10 years. I can not find any information on the Internet (which means he must not exist!). I suppose one day, I’ll have to stop at the nearby restaurant and ask about it. He is showing his age but I count on his presence every time I go by.

  1. I wish I had more info about the dragon, but I thought it was there longer than ten years. Not put together mind you, but it has been there for a long time. I’ve lived down here since 1994 and had family in this area since 1977, and my hometown is up past Lock haven so I’ve been driving past many times. But I can’t say now when I first saw it.

    1. Well, thanks for the info. I can’t believe there is nothing more about it. Guess Perry County and the internet don’t really mix…
