Spooky bits – new book and feature article

By | September 20, 2026

Here’s just a quick note on some new items I was involved in as we get started in the spooky season.

First, I was a consultant (editing and revisions) for this new book by DK for younger readers. It’s called The Unexplained: Mysteries, Cryptids, Ghosts, and UFOs. I wasn’t involved in the ghosts or UFO parts but I tried to give the most up to date info for the bits I was tasked with in the small space available. The visuals are pretty cool. I requested one for my local library. I hope you consider the same, or buy a copy for a kid you know who likes weird stuff.

Secondly, the latest issue of Rock & Gem magazine has a cover story on Spooky Geology for which I was interviewed. Again, the magazine is available on the newstands but it’s also free to me with my library’s Libby app. Also temporarily available here. I strongly recommend supporting local libraries. It’s how I read most books these days. I have 5 library cards!

Finally, if you have a podcast, I’m available to speak on cryptids, spooky geology, Fortean topics, and Scientifical Americans. If a good podcast you know ventures near these topics, please recommend me as a guest. I’m in the mood to chat about my favorite topics.
